Biographical and Professional Information

Although Annie Proulx was born in Connecticut and spent much of her early life in Vermont, her ties to Wyoming date back to the 1820s, when her father's ancestor Joseph Maria La Barge took part in Ashley's successful trapping expedition into the territory that later became Wyoming. Proulx grew up a French-Canadian in New England, but now makes her home in Wyoming where she uses the state's history and terrain as her subject. Proulx has most recently received acclaim as the writer of the original short story which was later adapted to screen in the film Brokeback Mountain.
