Biographical and Professional Information

Mrs. Hunter was born in Cordell, Oklahoma. She attended public and religious schools specializing in music and dramatics. She married in her teens to Ted Hunter, and moved to a mountain ranch in Hot Springs County, Wyoming. Her first story was published in "McCall Magazine" in 1932. Other magazines in which she was published include "Good Housekeeping," "Household," "Home and Chatelaine," "The American Scene," "Children Unlimited," "The Home," "Guideposts," "Empire," and "Canadian Chatelaine." Her story, "Portrait of Nancy Grey Deer," published in the "Casper Star Tribune" was syndicated and printed in 76 newspapers. It was also dramatized as an Easter program on national radio. Her book was picked up by English Speaking Union for the Books Across the Seas program, taking the story of present-day Indians to 28 foreign countries. The Hunters ran a trading post one mile from Sacajawea's grave at Fort Washakie, Wyoming, for many years. They also had a hotel in Hot Springs State Park at Thermopolis, and she wrote a column for the "National Wyoming Daily News" in Worland.
