Biographical and Professional Information
Eleanor Patterson was born in Chicago on November 7, 1884. Her father, Joseph Medill, was mayor of Chicago and owned the "Chicago Tribune." She married Count Josef Gizycki of Vienna in 1904. She worked as a write for the "New York Daily News," then owned by her brother, and as editor at the "Washington Herald." She eventually purchased the "Herald" and the "Washinton Times," and merged them into the "Times-Herald." She spent her summers in Jackson Hole from 1916 to 1925, and several summers thereafter at Bar BC Ranch. She then purchased a ranch on Flat Creek. She was known locally as "The Countess." She died in 1948 in Marlboro, Maryland.
