Biographical and Professional Information

Hazel Bender came to Hot Springs County to visit in 1904. She returned in 1910 to teach school and two years later married Alfred Cochran. They had four sons and an adopted daughter. Mrs. Cochran taught school at Lucerne and Sunnyside schools and helped on the ranch where they raised cattle and turkeys. After their family was raised she took courses at the University of Wyoming and began to write. She published stories and articles. Besides her writing she raised orchids, taught piano and was active in the First Baptist Church and the ABC Extension Club. Mrs. Cochran died on July 12, 1981, in Thermopolis, Wyoming.
