Biographical and Professional Information

Olive Woolley Burt was educated in the schools of Salt Lake City, Utah, including Utah University. She later did post-graduate work at the University of Chicago and at Columbia University in New York. She started her teaching career in southern Utah and as a young woman she taught school from 1918 to 1920 at the high school in Afton, Wyoming. She held a number of positions on the "Tribune" and the "Deseret News" of Salt Lake City. Her interest in writing was evident from childhood; it has been noted that, with the exception of 1904, she sold something for publication every year from the time she was eight until the year 1971. Her writing was mainly in the juvenile field and she traveled widely, gathering material for her many books; however, Western history was the background for most of her work. After her marriage to Clinton Ray Burt, she had two daughters and one son. She spent most of her later life in Salt Lake City, Utah.
