Biographical and Professional Information

Owen Wister was born to a wealthy family in Philadelphia on July 14, 1860. He was educated at Harvard Law School. Poor health led him West to Wyoming, spending much time in Wyoming during the 1880s and 1890s. His most famous Western, "The Virginian," is set in Medicine Bow, Wyoming, a place Wister visited on one of his many trips to the state.
