Biographical and Professional Information
Biographer of the lives of pioneer women, Dr. Bloomfield holds the Martin Distinguished Professorship at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Specializing in the Literature of the American West and Creative Nonfiction, she was awarded the 1998 Mari Sandoz Award from the Nebraska Library Association for her contributions to Nebraska. Her book on Cleary was a finalist for the 1998 Biography Award from the Society of Midland Authors as well as the winner of the 1998 Susan Koppelman award given by the Woman's Caucus of the Popular Culture Association, the American Culture Association, and the National Women's Studies Association. Her latest biography, Impertinences, won the 2006 WILLA award from Women Writing the West Association for Nonfiction as well as the 2006 Nonfiction Award from the Nebraska Center for the Book. Past President of the Western Literature Association, she is an active presenter for the Nebraska Humanities Council's Speaker's Bureau.
